Salomon AlgaziDiscography
BiographyA prominent (second-generation) cantor and figure in musical circles in Izmir, he was nicknamed Bülbüli Salomon, Salomon the Nightingale. He composed several pieces, including a peşrev each in Husseyni and in Hidjaz. Father to Isaac Algazi, he died in Istanbul in 1930. Salomon was active for Odeon from 1906-1907, making him among the earliest, if not the earliest, Sephardic recording artist. Source Galante, 1985. Seroussi, 1989. |
