"Xanthi Evreopoula" means "Blonde Jewish Girl."

Biography

Born in Smyrna ca. 1906, Abatzi began her prominent recording career in 1932 and sang over 200 sides by 1940. With Roza Eskenazi, she performed at the apex of the Greek musical world. Abatzi sang songs from the refugee population of her hometown of Smyrna (now Izmir), along with Piraeus rembetika, and traditional Greek folk songs.
